THE GLAIVE OF LIGHT

Written by

Dr. Pelham Mead

Summary

This is a story about a magical sword that could cut with light, and a Pict

named Kenkenny, who was chosen to protect it. The Glaive is a sword of

great value; made by the Gods, and not for anyone to handle. Only a good

hearted person, with virtuous intent could hold the Glaive of light. All

others, with evil intent, would die when they touched the sword. The story

takes place in the times of the Celts in ancient Ireland, hundreds of years

before Christ, and the Roman invasion. It is told with some subtle humor,

and tells stories on the lighter side. It is a story for children as well as adults.

CHAPTER ONE-SWORD OF THE GODS, THE BEGINNING

SCENE 1-INT. DAY – CLOUDS FLOATING BY HIGH UP IN THE

SKY AS AN UNSEEN NARRATOR TELLS THE STORY OF THE

GLAIVE OF LIGHT.

FADE IN:

NARRATOR (MALE VOICE)

The Celtic old ones say that in the beginning

of time, the good Gods, and the evil Gods

made a peace for a short period of time. The

good Gods would reign during the day, and

the evil Gods would rein in the night. The

good and the bad Gods fought for many

millenniums until a peace was declared.

As a symbol of their peace a Glaive of

Light, or a Sword of light, was fashioned out

of the rare stones of light such as diamonds,

and quartz, rather than steel or iron. This

sword was unlike any sword shaped by man

or God. For it was forged of diamonds and

quartz, some of the hardest crystal-like rock

in the earth. It would have no metal cutting

edge. Rather, it would have a dull edge, but

it reflected any light source and magnified

its intensity to become was would become

known millions of years later as a laser

bean.

The light beamed through the crystal-like

appearance of the Glaive, and shown the

colors of the rainbow, in a prism of color. It

was with the great skill of the Gods of good

and evil, that this symbol of peace was

created under millions of pounds of pressure

to form an unbreakable sword of power, and

light. In the handle of the Glaive of Light

were the most precious emeralds and rubies

set into the grip of the sword. The handle

was wrapped in leather and finally treated

and oiled to perfection.

The evil Gods did not completely trust the

good Gods, so they limited the powers of the

Glaive of Light to daytime, or a light source

only. The good Gods were equally

mistrusting of the evil Gods, and they

empowered the Glaive of Light with powers

never known to man before. Any holder of

the Glaive of Light would be greatly

enhanced in size, mental ability, and

physical strength. He would have the power

of 100 men.

NARRATOR (MALE VOICE) (CONT’D)

2.

The holder of the Glaive of Light would

have to be tall enough to carry a four-foot

long sword, and swing it with one or two

hands. Swirling the sword overhead made

the sword bearer invisible to human eyes. It

was another wonderful power of the Glaive

of Light.

The Glaive of light had special powers that

if pointed at an object could cause a beam of

light to cut a person in half, or a rock at over

one hundred yards or more. The Glaive

could cut through metal or any hard

substance, like a hot knife through butter.

When the Glaive of Light was finished the

Gods of good and evil were pleased, since it

seemed to be the perfect symbol of the peace

of the Gods, and the balance of night and

day. As the seasons progressed the Glaive of

Light got more and more powerful toward

spring, and finally reaching it’s peak of

power in the summer of the year. The Glaive

of Light represented life, and the four

seasons of the year. It was a symbol of

eternal life, and the changes that occur in

life. It was a symbol that was greater then

any one person or country or continent. It

was the truth.

The Gods of good and evil were determined

that the Glaive of Light would not fall into

the wrong hands so they chose a “Keeper of

the Glaive of Light.” The “Keeper of the

Glaive” would pass on to his descendants or

someone worthy and pure from one

generation to another the powers of the

“Keeper of the Glaive,” its secrets, and how

only pure truth, and noble blood could hold

it.

NARRATOR (MALE VOICE) (CONT’D)

3.

The powers of the Glaive were for the

betterment of mankind, and to balance the

forces of good and evil in the human world.

CHAPTER TWO-THE TRIBES OF CELTIA

SCENE 1- EXT. DAY -THE LOWLAND FORESTS OF CELTIA IN

THE NORTH OF MEATH.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Welcome to Celtia a small hamlet in the

North of Meath in early Ireland before the

Romans came. I am Kenkenny, the keeper

of the glaive. What is a glaive you ask? Well

in the Celtic language of old glaive means

sword. Let me first tell you about the strange

tribes in early Celtia. I myself am a Pict and

I live the lowland forests of Celtia in the

northern reaches of Meath (today’s Ireland).

There were many tribes in those days. It was

a time before the Romans came to the

county of Meath in Celtia. There were the

Picts tribe from the northern regions who

came across great ocean from northern

Europe. They were the tribe chosen by the

Gods to protect the “Glaive of Light, sword

of the Gods.”

The second tribe was the “Belts” were

another tribe to the south of the Picts, who

fought with their belts and sharpened belt

buckles, known to cause great damage.

Often they used their long belts to trip their

opponent, and then stabbed them to death.

NARRATOR (MALE VOICE) (CONT’D)

4.

The third tribe was the “Delts,” another tribe

from the southeast of Celtia. They were a

tribe that had a magical smell. A deadly fart

smell is what they had from a diet of a lot of

beans. If one hundred “Delts” stood in a

row they would create a fog from their farts,

and their enemies would not be able to see

them. They attacked out of the smelly fart

fog, and killed their enemies.

The fourth tribe was the “Darts” who were a

smaller tribe that left the Delts because they

could not stand the smell in their villages.

The Darts were experts in poison darts

which they threw in a battle.

The fifth Tribe to the northeast of Celtia,

and the islands in the north was called the

Melts. The Melts were a tribe that loved

chocolate. They would smear the chocolate

and mud all over their bodies to blend in

with the earth. The were known to throw

mud in their enemies eyes blinding them

long enough to kill them with a sword.

The Sixth tribe was the “Nelts” a tribe who

wore plaid skirts like the Scottish of today.

They were fierce warriors that allowed their

woman to fight with them. Before every

battle the “Nelts” would kneel down and

pray. This was seen as a weakness in their

attack methods by other tribes, but for the

Nelts their strength was in prayer and

spiritual power.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

5.

The Seventh tribe was a nomatic tribe that

lived near the southern beaches of Celtia

were called the “Pelts.” The “Pelts” were

spear throwers of great accuracy. Their

spears could travel almost as far as an arrow.

They were known for wearing animal pelts

when going into battle.

The Eighth tribe to the western highlands

was the Smelts. This tribe had an unusual

ability to smell their enemies, and were

often sought as trackers by other tribes.

Their noses were larger than average to

smell with. Now you know all there is to

know about the eight Celtic tribes.

SCENE 2- INT. DAY- CELTIA.

Kenkenny is a little person. Not a dwaft, but small just the same. He has

busy red hair and a thin full face beard with a large bulbous nose.

FADE IN:

KENKENNY (20) KEEPER OF THE

GLAIVE

What a beautiful day it is in the forests of

Celtia today. What news do we have today?

CARNOFF (25) PICTS TRIBE

We have word of the Belts tribe is causing

trouble with the Delts tribe again. It seems

they raided the Delts during the night, and

stole their ponies and horses.

KENKENNY

Really? And who reported this to you?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

6.

CARNOFF

A messenger from the Delts tribe rode in

this morning to our village to tell of the

tribal troubles. He reported that the Belts

fought with their sharpened Belt buckles

which caused great damage to many Delt

tribe members.

KENKENNY

Send word to the Delts tribe that the Picts

will support them in any battle.

CARNOFF

What do we do about their magical smell

problem Kenkenny? Everyone knows they

have a diet of beans with all their meals

which gives them unusual fart power. I have

heard tell that if one hundred Delts stood in

a row they could create a fog from their

farts. (Laughing)

KENKENNY

(Laughing) I think they smell more because

they never bath, rather then because they eat

a lot of beans. We don’t want an all-out war

among the tribes if we can help it. The Darts

tribe could team up with us because they

hate the Delts. They are experts in poison

darts which they use battle by throwing the

oversized darts at their opponents. They

have also been known to use poison arrows

with bows.

CARNOFF

What about the Melts on the islands in the

North? They are a chocolate crazy tribe.

They even use chocolate smeared all over

their bodies with mud to blend in with the

Earth.

7.

They even have been known to throw mud

in their enemies eyes blinding them long

enough to kill them with their short swords.

KENKENNY

What I am most worried about is the Nelts

who wear plaid skirts called Kilts. They are

fierce warriors that allow their women to

fight with them. They are very religious and

seek the help of many Gods, always

kneeling in pray before going into battle.

CARNOFF

Have you forgotten the nomadic tribe of

Pelts the great spear throwers and the Smelts

a tribe of unusual tracking and smelling

ability. The Smelts have larger noses than

the average person to sniff with. Some say

that they have wolf in their family tree.

KENKENNY

Let us hope brother Carnoff that a battle

among the seven tribes never happens. Send

messengers to all the tribes to make them

aware that war may be on the horizon.

CHAPTER THREE- KENKENNY, THE “KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE.”

The Glaive of Light was a big sword, as big as the keeper of the Glaive

himself. The first keeper of the Glaive of Light was a small person known to

his clan as KenKenny. One day hundreds of years after KenKenny lived out

his years as the first Keeper of the Glaive of Light, one of his descendents

would become Kenneth the Ist, the first recorded King of Scotland

CARNOFF (CONT’D)

8.

To preserve and carry the “Glaive of Light,” it had to be kept in a

lightproof case of the softest deerskin, and formed in the shape of a sheaf.

Many of the women of the clan of KenKenny sewed together the sheaf to

protect the Glaive of Light with the utmost skill and perfection.

It was the duty of the descendents of KenKenny to go, and seek out a noble

ruler for the land of Celtia who would be able to use the Glaive of Light for

justice and honesty. It was indeed a solemn duty that was entrusted to the

“Keeper of the Glaive of Light,” and his generations that followed. This is

the story about KenKenny, the first “Keeper of the Glaive of Light,” and his

journey to be a worthy Keeper who could use the power of the Glaive of

Light for good for all mankind.

Our story begins on the Hill of the Belothe in Central Celtia where a major

battle was to be undertaken. The daughter of a Melts Chieftain had run away

with her lover the son of the Chieftain of the Smelts. The Chieftain of the

Smelts was named “Smelly the 3rd,” and the Chieftain of the Melts was

called “Choo the Melter. “ Somehow a member of the Celts tribe was

mistaken for a Smelts tribal person while hunting for Deer. He was killed

with a poison chocolate tipped arrow, and left to die. The chieftain of the

Celts, Celtis III, was insulted that one of his tribe was killed accidently, and

declared war on both the Melts, and the Smelts. The Delts got involved by

siding with the Celts and the Belts sided with the Smelts so that they would

have smell and razor sharp belt buckles to fight with.

So it came to be on the day of the full moon in an unknown date in a time

before time the many tribes met on the hill of the Belothe. The hill of the

Belothe was a sacred site with open fields surrounded by wooded forests.

The northern part of the hill was a steep downhill grade, and the southern

side was less steep, and led to the open grass plain.

9.

It was a cloudy and rainy day when the tribes arrived to do battle. The dogs

of war howled, Celts screamed, drums pounded, and bone whistles pierced

the ears. It was a day to die.

The daughter of the Choo the Melter was called Sienna, and her lover, son of

Smelly the 3rd, was called “Big nose the 2nd.” Despite their differences,

Sienna, and Big Nose the 2nd, loved one another. Choo the Melter was from

the Melts tribe who hated the Smelts tribe and with Sienne falling in love

with Big Nose 2nd of the Smelts tribe war was declared. To make things

worse the Celts tribe declared war against both the Melts tribe and the

Smelts tribe. Blood would flow heavy that dreaded day.

So the battle had begun and arrows were flying in the sky everywhere as the

sun rose over Belothe hill. Many miles away Kenkenny was asleep having

a dream about stopping a battle of the tribes. A fairy woman dressed in red

told Kenkenny in his sleep to go to Belothe Hill with the Glaive of Light and

part the enemies with the powerful sword. So when Kenkenny awoke he

saddled his pony and took the Glaive of light with him and rode off to the

battle on Belothe Hill.

An hour later Kenkenny appeared on a Belothe hill near the middle of the

battleground with his sword, “The Glaive of Light.” He could see from

where he was standing that all three tribes were killing one another with

sword and arrows. Remembering what the red faire woman said, he decided

to stop the fighting. It took but a few minutes for him to swing his sword

cutting down soldiers on all sides of the battle. This weapon so astounded

everyone that all the soldiers from all three tribes ran for the forests, and

kept running back to their homes, never daring to look back at the carnage.

Kenkenny the Pict, had saved the day. The price he paid, however, was that

now everyone in Celtia knew he had this amazing weapon, and soon they

would try to take it away from him.

10.

CHAPTER THREE- KENKENNY, THE KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE.

SCENE 1- INT. DAY – KENKENNY’S HUT IN THE PICT VILLAGE.

KENKENNY

(Speaking out loud to himself) Truly this

Glaive of Light is a very large sword,

especially for a little person such as me.

Almost every day I have to take the Glaive

of light out of it’s lightproof case of the

softest deerskin, and polish the blade to that

it shines in the light. As the Keeper of the

Glaive of Light, it is my solemn duty to be a

worthy Keeper who could use the power of

the Glaive of Light for the good of mankind

Mildred is Kenkenny’s wife who is a small person, slim with long silver

blonde hair, and a face that is always smiling. She is a loving and caring

wife that any small person would love to have for a wife.

MILDRED (19) WIFE OF KENKENNY

What would you like for dinner husband?

KENKENNY

I am in the mood for turnips and greens

good woman.

MILDRED

Than turnips and greens it will be. You look

worried my love. What is on your mind?

11.

KENKENNY

I worry that there is more to stealing horses

with the Belts and the Delts than we are

aware of. Something tells me we are in for a

surprise.

FADE OUT.

CHAPTER FOUR-THE BATTLE OF BELOTHE

SCENE 1- EXT. DAY THE HILL OF THE BELOTHE IN CENTRAL

CELTIA

celtis is a short and fat chieftain of the celts tribe with a full face beard and

reddish brown long hair.

CELTIS III (43) CHIEFTAIN OF THE

CELTS TRIBE

Do you see them coming Dragona? The sun

Is blinding my sight over the valley.

Dragons is a witch with long white hair and green eyes who wears a long

purple gown and a strange peaked hat. She carried a magical cane that had

many strange properties.

DRAGONA (30) WHITE WITCH OF THE

CELTS TRIBE

I see two tribes descending on the Hill of

Belothe where we stand Chieftain. It is the

colors of the Melts and the Smelts.

CELTIS III

We will make the Melts and Smelts pay for

killing my son IDILIS. It is any eye for an

eye.

Elsewhere in a cave hidden far away are Sienna daughter of the Melts

Chieftain and Big Nose 2nd, son of Smelly 3rd.

12.

SIENNA DAUGHTER OF CHOO THE

MELTER, CHIEFTAIN OF THE MELTS

TRIBE

Big do you think we did the right thing by

running away to this cave? You know my

father Choo the Melter will search

everywhere for me?

BIG NOSE 2ND (20) SON OF SMELLY

3RD CHIEFTAIN OF THE SMELTS

TRIBE.

Sienna my love I am thinking of a plan for

us to escape to another land where we can

live together. Come closer to me and the fire

so you can get warm.

SIENNA DAUGHTER OF CHOO THE

MELTER, CHIEFTAIN OF THE MELTS

TRIBE

I feel so wonderful when I am in your arms.

FADE OUT.

Back at the Hill of Belothe.

CELTIS III

We will wait until the Melts are within range

of our arrows and then will unleash a hoard

of arrows to block the sun of the sky.

CHOO THE MELTER (40) CHIEFTAIN

OF THE MELTS AND FATHER OF

SIENNA.

I can see the flag of the Celts on yonder Hill

of Belothe. They have the high ground but

no matter we will set a trap by sending our

calvary around the back of the hill to flank

them while our foot soldiers march down the

middle of the valley.

13.

SMELLY THE 3RD (38) CHIEFTAIN OF

THE SMELTS

I will send my calvary around the back side

of the hill Chieftain Choo. We will surprise

the Celts by flanking their lines at the top of

the Hill of Belothe.

Conan the Druid is a small bent over old man with long grey hair tied in a

pony tail and an animal skin for clothing. On his head he wears deer’s

antlers.

CONAN THE DRUID (60)

I have checked the bones and they say this

will be a great day for the Smelts and Melts.

The signs are all good master.

SMELLY THE 3RD

Good. Can you read where my coward son

Big Nose has gone?

CONAN THE DRUID

No, Master. Something strange is blocking

my vision of your son and the bitch Serena.

SMELLY THE 3RD

I see the Delts have come to reinforce our

troops. We outnumber the Melts now 3:1.

At the far end of the valley the Delts tribe arrive to reinforce the Smelts.

Rono is extremely fat weighing at lease 400 pounds. He is short and so fat

that he has to wobble to walk. He wears a long goatee and has many

wrinkles on his fat face and beady little eyes.

RONO THE FAT (55) CHIEF OF THE

DELTS

Axes send word to Smelly the 3rd that the

Delts have arrived to reinforce his troops.

Back on Belothe hill.

DRAGONA, THE WHITE WITCH

Celtis the Delts have arrived and they are

supporting the Smelts and the Melts.

14.

What are we to do Chief? Perhaps I can put

a spell on them?

CELTIS III

Blood will flow deep today Dragona. Tell

the troops to be ready.

It was a cloudy and

rainy day when the tribes arrived to do battle. The dogs of war howled, Celts

screamed, drums pounded, and bone whistles pierced the ears. It was a day

to die.

FADE OUT.

SCENE 1- INT. NIGHT – THE BATTLE OF THE HILL OF

BELOTHE.

Kenkenny is asleep in his home and a fairy woman appears in a dream. She

is dressed in a long red dress. Her hair is a bright reddish-orange color and

she floats through the air with ease. Her eyes are a deep dark black color that

seem to stare vacantly.

FADE IN:

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

(Sleeping)

RED DRESS FAIRY WOMAN

Kenkenny I come to warn you that a battle is

about to take place on Belothe hill not far

from your village. It is written that a small

person with a magical sword will settle the

battle before hundreds of lives are lost. You

are being called Kenkenny to take the

Glaive of Light and to the Hill of Belothe

right now.

The fairy woman in red disappears as quickly as she appeared.

DRAGONA, THE WHITE WITCH (CONT’D)

15.

Startled, Kenkenny awakens from his dream and sits bolt upright and calls

our for Madeline his wife.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Madeline! I just had a terrible dream. It

seems that many of the tribes are about to

engage in a major battle on the hill of

belothe. A fairy woman in a long red dress,

came to me in a dream that I must go, and

stop this battle before much blood was shed.

I must go and saddle up my pony and use

the Glaive of Light to bring peace.

MADELINE

I worry for you Kenkenny. You are but a

little man, and the mysterious Glaive of

Light is so very powerful. I hope you will

enhance your size and power this very day

of darkness. Go with strength my husband.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

I am off my love. With the Glaive of Light

at my side I will have more power than ten

armies. I go now on my pony to the hill of

belothe. Hurray my pony.

An hour later Kenkenny appears on the hill of Belothe. The battle had

already begun with arrows flying through the air everywhere and foot

soldiers charging across the valley to climb up the hill of Belothe.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

(CONT’D)

Stop, stop this insanity. (Yelling) Hail

Chieftains of the Celts, Melts, Smelts and

Delts tribes. I am Kenkenny of the Picts

tribe, and this sword that I hold is the

legendary Glaive of Light, given by the

Gods to prevent evil and help good to

endure. I am here today to stop this

unnecessary bloodshed. I urge you to go

back to your villages and put this fight

behind you.

16.

If you do not stop this fighting then I will

have to use the magic of the Glaive of light

to make you weep that you did not stop

when I asked you to. (Shouting to the top of

the hill of belothe) What say you Chieftain

Celtis III? And what of you Smelly the 3rd,

and Rono?

CELTIS III

Who is this little man from the Picts tribe

and what is he doing here. This is not his

fight.

DRAGONA

He is the Keeper of the Glaive of light for

the Gods.

CELTIS III

And what does this Glaive do that we should

care?

DRAGONA

It is supposed to have magical properties my

Lord.

On the other side of the valley.

SMELLY THE 3RD

Who is that little man from the Picts tribe?

CONAN THE DRUID

He is the Keeper of the Glaive, Master.

SMELLY THE 3RD

And why do we care? Cut him down when

we charge the hill of belothe.

CONAN THE DRUID

I would not advise it master. I have heard of

this magical sword that was created by the

Gods. We should wait and see what he does

before charging.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

17.

Oh, see he is getting off his pony. That is the

Glaive of light he is holding in his hands and

swinging over head.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Since no one is listening to me I am going to

have to get your attention. Gods above, and

Gods below bring forth the power of the

Glaive this day and make me taller, stronger

than 100 men, and let the sword shine and

do it destruction this day. (Kenkenny’s body

began to grow and grow until he was 8 feet

tall, and his strength was that of a hundred

men). Suddenly the Glaive of light began to

get bright, and still brighter until no one

could look at it directly. Kenkenny swung

the sword pointed it toward those standing

on the Hill of Belothe and several hundred

warriors fell to the ground, their bodies cut

in half as if a giant razor cut through them.

KENKENNY

Now I point the Glaive of light at the Smelts

and Delts for not listening what I have to

say.

CELTIS III

Gods above look how big the little man from

the Picts tribe has grown. He must be 8 feet

tall? That sword is killing everyone. Run,

we must run to survive.

SMELLY THE 3RD

That Pict has become a Giant. It is the devil

at work. Retreat, run for your lives.

As a long beam of light swung across the valley below the Hill of Belothe

several hundred horses and riders were cut down where they stood. This so

frightened the tribes when they saw this, they all ran away from the battle

back to their villages.

CONAN THE DRUID (CONT’D)

18.

KENKENNY

The vultures will feast well today as will the

scavengers of the forest. I feel so strong and

big. When I put the Glaive of light in it’s

scabbard I will return to my normal size and

strength.

And so Kenkenny mounted his pony and returned to his village.

FADE OUT.

CHAPTER FOUR- KENKENNY AND THE GREY WOLF

SCENE 1- EXT. DAY – SOMEWHERE IN THE CELTIC FOREST.

FADE IN:

It was late in the afternoon in the Celtic forest, and the tree shadows were

getting longer. Kenkenny was hunting for Quail eggs in the field along the

edge of the forest. He had collected about 28 eggs so far. As the sun began

to set early he knew he had better head home before darkness came upon the

land. He had two ways to get home; the quick way through the forest or go

around the forest over a stream, and through the valley of hills.

Being it was still light out, Kenkenny decided he could run through the

forest with his precious eggs, dragging the Glaive of Light with him. Being a

small person had it’s advantages in being able to duck under the tall bushes,

and not hit his head. The Glaive of Light that he was entrusted to protect at

all costs, hung around his neck dragging slightly on the ground.

19.

Half-way though the forest, Kenkenny heard loud growling sounds. As he

approached the place where the sounds were coming from, he hid behind a

huge bolder. From behind the bolder he saw a bear, and a grey wolf fighting.

The grey wolf was bleeding badly. The female bear had the grey wolf

cornered against a high rock ledge. The grey wolf was barking, and howling

from pain. The grey wolf was already bleeding from a cut from the bear.

The bear seemed ready to kill the grey wolf with a volley of her sharp claws

sweeping across the wolf’s body.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

I am Kenkenny Keeper of the Glaive of

Light. I command you to stop this fighting

now.

BEAR

Who is this human to tell me what to do? I

will crush him with one sweep of my paws.

Step back little human.

GREY WOLF

I am Grey Wolf. Stay away human. This is

none of your business.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

When I swing this magical sword over my

head, I will grow in height, and have the

strength of 100 men. Then, I will cut both of

you in half in an instant.

GREY WOLF

I have stepped away human. Do not cut me

in half.

BEAR

I am the great Bear of the forest and no

human tells me what to do. Prepare to die

human.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

By the powers of the Gods give me the

power to swing this sword and strike the

Bear down.

20.

(The Glaive of light began to get brighter

and brighter until a beam of light came out

of the tip and cut the Bear in half on the

spot). The two halves of the Bear lie on the

ground and the Wolf howled from fright.

GREY WOLF

So you do have magical powers human. I

am indebted to you for saving my life from

the Bear. I give you my commitment to

protect you for life for saving my life. Go in

peace little human.

FADE OUT.

CHAPTER FIVE-THE WOLF AT MY BACK

SCENE 1- INT. DAY- KENKENNY’S HOME

KENKENNY, DEFENDER OF THE GLIAVE

As I look out my window I can see a lone

grey wolf howling on a hill nearby every

night at dawn. The full moon shadowing the

outlines of the wolf with here head thrown

back howling at the sky. I knew that I had a

friend for life that I could always depend on.

That night Kenkenny had a dream and a ghostly woman in white came to

him.

GHOSTLY WOMAN IN WHITE

Kenkenny, Defender of the Gliave of Light,

I come as a messenger of the Gods. It is you

mission to do good for mankind and to seek

out a Prince or King that would use the

Glaive of Light to bring peace to the many

tribes of Celtia, Meath, and Farlandia.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

21.

This prince or King must be a good and

honest man first of all. His heart must be

pure. Go and find this prince or King to

bring peace to all the tribes. You must be

cautious because many others of evil means

desire to steal the Glaive of Light and have

it’s powers for themselves.

FADE OUT.

The next morning a map lie at the foot of Kenkenny’s bed showing the area

of South Celtia beyond country of Meath, called Hammoth.

KENKENNY

Ahh, I have heard of Hammoth where many

rich Kings and Princes live. I must do as the

ghostly white woman commands and search

for a worthy owner of the Glaive of Light. I

will ask my best friend Debruce to come

with me for two is safer than on strange

roads.

Later that day.

KENKENNY (CONT’D)

Debruce I have been looking for you. Will

you come with me on a ride to the country

of Hammoth in search of an honest, and

pure heart King or Prince?

Debruce is another little person with a full face beard who looks a little like

a dwarf only taller and a smaller nose. His long dark hair is braided together

behind his head and he wears a wide brimmed hat to shade his face from the

sun. He is 22 years of age and still a single man.

DEBRUCE (22) FRIEND OF KENKENNY

You know I will never say NO to my friend

Kenkenny. I can have my pony ready in

thirty minutes. How far is Hammoth from

our village? Are you bringing the Glaive of

Light good friend?

GHOSTLY WOMAN IN WHITE (CONT’D)

22.

KENKENNY

Aye, Hammoth is at least a week’s ride or

more depending on the problems we have

along the way. There are many creatures and

unholy things lurking in the forests and

fields. I have our food already packed. Go

back to your home and get a bedroll and a

water flask is all you will need my friend.

DEBRUCE

I will be back before you have a chance to

water the pony.

And so the journey begins with Kenkenny wearing the long Glaive of Light

strapped to his waist. The sword was nearly as tall as he was and slapped his

leg constantly as the pony galloped along.

After a long first day’s ride from Kenkenny’s hamlet the sun was beginning

to go down.

KENKENNY

Let’s find a safe place to bed down for the

night before it get’s dark. I see an old tree

that fell down with huge roots to protect us

from bad weather. Let us ride over and

inspect it.

Suddenly a dark horsemen emerged out of the woods.

DEBRUCE

Kenkenny, Look out it is a headless

horseman dressed in black on a wagon

pulled by four black horses. Run for the

woods. Get that pony moving quickly before

the horseman does harm. Hid behind the tree

roots Kenkenny.

GREY WOLF (8)

I am here little one. This black horseman

does not scare us. Run brother and sister

wolves. Chase the dark horseman on the

wagon with his four black horses. Bite at he

horses legs.

Suddenly, the horseman reins in his four horses and turns and runs away in

23.

another direction leaving the pack of wolves behind.

GREY WOLF (CONT’D)

As I said before little human, “I have your

back where ever you go.”

KENKENNY

Thank you Grey Wolf. You saved our lives.

We will stay here for the night, knowing you

are in the hills always on watch.

DEBRUCE

Now you talk to wolves? What other secrets

do you have my friend? And where the hell

did that headless horseman come from?

KENKENNY

It is a long story I will tell you someday.

Come let us start a fire to warm up.

That was the end of their first day on the road to Hammoth.

FADE OUT.

CHAPTER 6- THE NYMPH IN THE CAVE

SCENE 1- EXT. DAY- A STORM SURGES ACROSS THE LAND.

FADE IN:

DEBRUCE

Kenkenny are you up? The sun is up and it

is time to hit the trail and get away from this

creepy area.

KENKENNY

Alright Debruce. I am ready. We can stop

later and have some hot tea and dried meat.

24.

In the middle of the next day a storm surged upon the land. Kenkenny and

Debruce sought cover when the storm approached, the clouds thicken, and

the sky darkened. Suddenly, down came a deluge of rain washing away the

roads, and bending trees to the earth.

KENKENNY (CONT’D)

Rain clouds on the horizon Debruce. We had

better head for shelter.

DEBRUCE

How about the huge oak tree over there.

Let’s make a run for it before the rain

comes.

KENKENNY

The old oak protects us from the rain, but we

need something more secure for the night.

How about that cave over there by the rock

ledge?

DEBRUCE

Let’s make a dash for the cave while the rain

is still light.

KENKENNY

This cave is great. We can start a fire and

stay dry from the rain storm all night. Grab

those dead branches over there and we can

use them for the fire. Tie the ponies to this

rock in the cave where they can get some

shelter too. My pony biscuit doesn’t like the

rain. Here is an apple and some dried fish

for you Debruce. If you heat up some water

I have some loose tea too for us to drink.

DEBRUCE

I am tire from all the riding today. I will turn

in early tonight.

KENKENNY

Sleep well friend. I will turn in after I finish

my tea.

Later that night a strange sound came from deep within the cave.

25.

KENKENNY (CONT’D)

(Sitting bolt upright) What was that sound? I

heard something from deep within the cave.

Debruce wake up there is someone else in

the cave with us.

In the darkness of the back of the cave a pair of eyes appeared.

KENKENNY (CONT’D)

Debruce wake up please. We have a visitor.

There is something or someone in the cave

with us.

DEBRUCE

What are you talking about?

KENKENNY

Look back in the cave. Do you see those

eyes moving around? Don’t move I am

going to grab the Glaive of Light to protect

us. Who are you and what do you want of

us? I have a powerful sword in my hands

and will use it if I am forced to do so.

DEBRUCE

Let me get a stick from the fire to use as a

torch. Maybe we can see better with it?

KENKENNY

What the hell is that flying about our heads?

Is it a nymph? What is your business here

Nymph?

ELKI, THE NYMPH OF THE CAVE

Fear not little person, I mean you no harm.

(Speaking in a strange woman-like sound). I

am Elki, the Nymph of the cave, here to

protect sacred portions of this special cave.

It was in this cave that a great warrior was

born.

26.

KENKENNY

If that be true Nymph, why do you come to

us in the middle of the night?

DEBRUCE

I will hide behind you Kenkenny. This

nymph flying around makes me nervous. If I

hold my torch higher I might be able to see

the nymph better. Oh, there you are little

one. You look like a little bird with bluish

green skin, red eyes and wings that beat as

fast as a hummingbird.

ELKI, THE NYMPH OF THE CAVE

Fear not little men, so long as you do not

defile this sacred cave, then we have no

business together, and I will go my way.

DEBRUCE

Look who is calling who little? Fine then

we are going back to our fire, and wish you

no ill will.

They went back to the opening of the cave, and tried to get warm, and return

to sleep, but sleep seemed impossible keeping one eye open for the

unpredictable nymph.

ELKI, THE NYMPH OF THE CAVE

I see that on the morrow you will enter the

Forest of the Elders, and the talking trees.

There you will learn some wisdom regarding

your journey. Fear not the talking trees in

the Forest of the Elders, and most of all do

not cut any branches or axe cuts into the

trunks of the great trees for they are the

bodies of the Elders thousands of years old.

These trees reach up to the Gods, and join

heaven and Earth with their branches and

roots.

27.

KENKENNY

(Shouting) Thank you Nymph of the cave

for your wisdom. We will do as you

command. Come Debruce let us pack our

ponies and be on our way before the sun

rises.

DEBRUCE

Good idea. I never got any real sleep

anyway.

KENKENNY

I see the Forest of the ELders off in the

distance rising high above the land.

DEBRUCE

I just can’t wait. Do these trees talk too?

KENKENNY

I know only what the nymph told us.

DEBRUCE

I am beginning to feel I should have stayed

back in the village my friend. All these

creatures, talking wolves, nymphs, and now

talking trees. Too weird for me.

A few hours later Kenkenny and Debruce come to the Forest of the Elders.

As they enter the forests the light from the sun fades with the huge trees

shading the forest floor.

DEBRUCE (CONT’D)

We are finally in the forest of the Elders

Kenkenny. Now what?

KENKENNY

Just keep riding and be careful not to step on

any roots or brush by any of the trees.

FADE OUT.

ACT SEVEN-THE FOREST OF THE ELDERS

28.

SCENE 1- EXT. DAY- THE MAIN ROAD THROUGH THE FOREST

OF THE ELDERS.

FADE IN:

DEBRUCE

Look at how big the tree trunks are

Kenkenny. I have never seen trees so large.

KENKENNY

You know that tradition has it that many

generations before, the Elders of Celtica

were turned into talking trees by an evil

Wizard for betraying him to his enemies.

The forest was all tall oak trees, that stood

taller than redwood trees.

DEBRUCE

Kenkenny, do you hear that humming sound

from the tops of the trees blowing in the

wind? Strange sounds seem to be

everywhere. There don’t seem to be any

animals or squirrels in this forest. Even the

sound of birds are absent. It is a creepy kind

of silence in this forest. So where are the

talking trees or is that just another fairy tale

told by the druids of old?

Do you believe what the nymph said about

learning our fate in the Forest of the Elders?

KENKENNY

I am not sure. Have nymph’s ever lied

before? There is a stream ahead. Let’s

dismount and give our ponies a rest and

some water for their thirst.

Look at what a beautiful stream there is right

in the middle of the forest. You can almost

see your own face in the still water.

DEBRUCE

Yes it is a beautiful stream indeed.

As Debruce and Kenkenny sat beside the stream.

29.

DEBRUCE (CONT’D)

How many more days do we have to travel

to get to the land of Hammoth?

KENKENNY

I do not know for I have never been to

Hammoth.

Debruce sat on the root of a large Oak tree which he thought was a mount of

dirt, and rested. Suddenly, there was a huge roar that came from high in the

trees overhead.

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK

TREE

Sit on your own roots little one.

Kenkenny and Debruce jumped to their feet and started to run away from the

huge oak tree.

GIANT OAK TREE

Come back little ones. I did not want to

scare you.

KENKENNY

Are you an evil spirit?

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK TREE

No, little one, I am Sammon the Elder of

old.

DEBRUCE

How is it you can talk?

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK TREE

We are the elders who were imprisononed

by an Evil sorcerer many centuries ago. We

cannot move except with the wind, but we

can still talk. We can also see into the future

because we can see across the entire land

from sea to sea. It would be wise of you to

go around the swamp that you will come to

after the forest.

30.

KENKENNY

But that would add a extra day to our

journey.

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK TREE

In the swamp you will come upon many

creatures, poisonous Giant Frogs, Banshees,

and Crows of death.

KENKENNY

We have encountered many creatures

before, great one. Besides, I have the Glaive

of light to protect us.

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK TREE

You will see little ones that what I have

foretold will come to be.

KENKENNY

We thank you for your advice, oh big one,

but we are in a hurray to reach the land of

Hammoth.

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK TREE

Do as you wish, but it is your destiny, and I

cannot change that.

KENKENNY

We bid you well old one, and we must be on

our way.

SAMMON THE ELDER, GIANT OAK TREE

Go with the Gods little ones.

Narrator: And so Kenkenny and Debruce rode on their way through the

forest of the elders until they came to open grass fields. Kenkenny looked

behind them, and saw the Grey Wolf standing on a hill nearby. Yes, the wolf

was always at their back.

31.

DEBRUCE

Is that wolf following us?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Yes the Wolf is still there. She is looking out

for us. Do not worry Debruce. See this

grassy knoll I have marked on my map, it is

the O’Sher Battlefield, where hundreds of

years before all of the Celtic tribes did

battle. We should be coming to the

battlefield soon.

DEBRUCE

Graves scare me Kenkenny. Oh my God

look ahead. There are grave markers of

stone everywhere as far as the eye could see.

The field of graves must be about five miles

long, and the grave stones were in the

thousands. Big and small the grave stones

were, silently watching the passing of time.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

We should stop and rest at this long stone

wall. My pony is exhausted, so the timing

seems right to camp for the night.

Narrator: The stone wall was all that was left of a home once built of stone

and cement. Only the wall, and the outline of the house remained. Darkness

came quickly that night, and Debruce started a fire to cook their dinner of

potatoes and dried beef in a stew.

DEBRUCE

I will cook up a dinner of potatoes

and dried beef in a nice stew.

Perhaps if you could look around

for some herbs they would improve

the taste of the stew.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Surely, I will begin to search for

some herbs or wild vegetables. Look

here I found some wild onions and

carrots too.

32.

DEBRUCE

In an hour or so this dried beef will become

soft, and the potatoes, carrots and onions

will become soft and tasty too.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

I cannot wait to taste of this stew after so

many hours of riding on our ponies.

Narrator: In about an hour they were eagerly scooping out the stew into

wooden bowls and remarking how great the stew tasted.

Later that evening under a cloudy sky they covered themselves with their

blankets and fell fast asleep. Sometime after midnight the wind began to

pick up and began to sound like howling sounds. Soon leaves and branches

began to blow across the grassy field as the wind picked up in strength.

Suddenly out of the darkness, a human sound of howling was heard. It

sounded like a woman in pain, crying for help. Kenkenny and Debruce were

awakened to the loud sound of wailing.

DEBRUCE

Did you hear that? What the hell?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Yes, I did and it seemed very frightening.

DEBRUCE

What is it? Perhaps this place is haunted?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

It sounds like a banshee crying in the wind.

DEBRUCE

Banshee, what is it doing here in a

graveyard

Narrator: Soon the sound got louder and louder and a myst appeared, and out

of the myst came the image of a old woman. She had a look of fear on her

face as she flew around the air back and forth, wailing and wailing, on and

on.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

I cannot stand it anymore. Take some cloth

and block out your ears so you cannot hear

the banshee.

33.

Narrator: Debruce did as Kenkenny requested, and put small pieces of cloth

in his ears so he could not hear the banshee crying loudly.

DEBRUCE

Is she going to hurt us?

Narrator: Finally, Kenkenny could take anymore of the wailing, and took out

the Glaive of Light, and held it over his head.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

By the power of the Glaive of Light, I

command you to stop.

Narrator: The Glaive of Light got brighter and brighter and all of the

cemetery around them was lit up. The banshee began to become smaller and

smaller, and her wailing finally turned to silence, and all of a sudden there

was silence, and she was gone.

DEBRUCE

Well I am glad that worked.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

It is not as easy as that my friend. Each time

I use the Glaive of Light it weakens my

magic a little more and more. Let us go

back to sleep for the sun will soon be rising.

The next day, Kenkenny decided to ride around the outside of the field of

sorrows so as not to disturb the spirits near the graves.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

(CONT’D)

Come Debruce, We will use the road that

goes around the outside trail instead of

going straight through the five mile long

grave yard.

34.

DEBRUCE

Good idea Kenkenny. I have had enough

with these spirits, banshees, and nymphs for

a lifetime.

FADE OUT.

CHAPTER NINE- THE BANSHEE IN THE FOG

SCENE 1- EXT. DAY-THE GREAT FROG SWAMP

Narrator: The rain was coming down hard as Kenkenny, and Debruce rode

their horses through the valley of Earth beyond the great frog swamp. It was

but a few days ride to the castle of the stone Prince, that they were seeking.

Around mid-day Kenkenny and Debruce stopped in a little village called

Pruneland. Here was a village that had hundreds of Plum trees which the

local people dried, and made into prunes. Their prunes were well know

throughout Celtia.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

This is the town of Pruneland. They have the

best prunes in Celtia. Let’s stop and get a

bag of prunes.

DEBRUCE

Let’s check in at the Pruneland Inn and get

some rest until the rain lets up.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Good idea Debruce. I am tired from riding

through the rain.

DEBRUCE

I will get us a room for the night. Why don’t

you put the ponies in the stable and see that

they get some feed?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Consider it done Debruce.

A few hours later both Debruce and Kenkenny fell asleep from exhaustion.

FADE OUT.

35.

SCENE 2- EXT. DAY-The Heavy Fog in Prune

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

(CONT’D)

I need to go outside after

breakfast and get some fresh air.

There is a terrible odor in this

inn.

Kenkenny goes outside to breath in some fresh air.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

(CONT’D)

Wow, the fog is so thick I cannot

see twenty feet in front of me. I

think I see something. Could it be

a woman in the fog near the well? I

must be imagining this vision.

OLD WOMAN BY THE WELL

Have you come to fetch water at the well?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

No I am just walking old woman.

OLD WOMAN BY THE WELL.

Can you fetch me a cup of water?

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

(Lowering the bucket into the well) I am

happy to get you a cup of water. What is

your Name old woman?

OLD WOMAN BY THE WELL

My name is of no importance.

Narrator: Kenkenny wondered if she was a ghost or something. She seemed

to float around in the mist while they were talking. After she drank the water

she thanked Kenkenny, and disappeared into the fog. Kenkenny walked back

to the Inn wondering about this mysterious woman and why she had

appeared in the fog.

Later that night while Kenkenny and Debruce were fast asleep there came a

howling at the window. It was the mysterious woman Kenkenny met at the

well. She was screeching at the top of her lungs while flying around in the

fog outside the window.

36.

BANSHEE

Beware, beware little ones, for down the

road lies death. Yea, death I say, beware,

beware.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Who are you?”

BANSHEE

I am the banshee of life and death and you

face death down the road little ones.

Beware.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

Go away, we do not believe you evil one.

DEBRUCE

What is the matter, why are you shouting?

Who are you shouting at? I cannot see

anyone.

The banshee disappeared into the fog from whence she came screaming,

death, death to all.

KENKENNY, KEEPER OF THE GLAIVE

I think we have a supernatural warning

about what is to happen down the road. We

must be on our guard.

The following morning they bid their inn-keeper farewell, and continued on

their journey.

FADE OUT.
